Learning Spark Initiative

Learning Spark Initiative

Inspiredu has a three-pronged approach, which we call our Learning Spark Initiative, to increase digital literacy in the underserved areas within Georgia. This initiative includes our Family Learning Workshop program, our Adult Digital Literacy program, and our STEM Pipeline Programming. In both our Family Learning Workshop and our Adult Digital Literacy programs, participants attend a workshop that provides a myriad of technical skills, from setting up the computer and logging on to the internet, to using basic computer software, to understanding how to use technology to increase financial wellness, to completing certifications to bolster work readiness.

Our Family Learning Workshop program and our STEM Pipeline Programing work to support k-12 education by providing the technology and training to bridge the digital divide for underserved families and by exposing students in these under-resourced areas to an insight into careers in technology. Our Adult Digital Literacy program recognizes that adults who aren’t digitally literate are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding a job and navigating life. Inspiredu's Adult Digital Literacy program aims to assist adult learners who are seeking to add digital literacy to their career toolboxes.

Family Learning

Inspiredu’s Family Learning Program increases parents’ capacity to support their 21st century learner. Through either school workshops, community-based workshops, or virtual training, Inspiredu provides families with a free Laptop Home Learning Center preloaded with digital resources, as well as the training to use this technology to bridge the digital divide so often seen in underserved communities. The devices become the family’s property, and we provide technical support for one year following the workshop.

STEM Pipeline

Inspiredu’s STEM Pipeline Program focuses on exposing youth to the careers that involve using science, technology, engineering, and math to solve real world problems. As technology evolves, the demand for skilled workers has increased exponentially. Economically disadvantaged students historically have less access to the technology and training they need in order to develop these skills which inevitably results in them not being qualified for those higher paying careers. Our program supports the educational pathway for students to acquire these skills while providing opportunities for students to learn from professionals in STEM career fields. The STEM Pipeline Program strives to spark student interest in STEM career fields through opportunities to investigate real world careers.

Adult Digital Literacy

Inspiredu’s Adult Digital Literacy Program provides training for adults who are lacking basic computer skills. Society has become increasingly dependent on technology in both the workplace and everyday life. We recognized the disparate technological abilities in members of economically disadvantaged communities. The education system has increasingly incorporated digital communication. Parents who are unable to access this communication are at a grave disadvantage, which in turn negatively affects their children’s education. Through our adult courses, parents are able to increase their confidence in navigating various digital platforms. This program gives parents the tools not only to assist their children in their education, but it also gives them the ability to carry those skills over into the workplace to improve their own career opportunities. In addition, having devices at their homes can lead to increased usage of telehealth, banking, and research opportunities.
