Inspiredu. Changing lives through technology and education.
Over the last few years, we’ve been bringing families together for fun days of learning and providing the essential tech tools and support needed for a strong home learning environment.
Through a collaborative community approach, we’ve expanded our digital literacy program to reach both adults and youth, and we’ve enhanced our support for the STEM career pipeline year-round.
Inspiredu inspires our communities' digital champions as we strive to amplify digital inclusions and promote educational equity for all learners around metro Atlanta and throughout the state of Georgia.
The Gaps We Fill
The pandemic has exacerbated existing digital divides related to age, disability, gender, geography and socioeconomic status. With many essential services pushed online, there is a real and present danger that those without broadband Internet access could be left ever further behind.
In today’s digital landscape, collaboration between community organizations can bridge gaps and promote opportunity. Our partnership with City of Refuge is a perfect example. We’re working together to transform lives through digital skills training and increased access to technology. Specifically, Inspiredu is working to support City of Refuge through their innovative EmployED Workshop Series
On October 8, we partnered with the Latin American Association to celebrate both Hispanic Heritage Month and Digital Inclusion Week with a specialized training workshop. The event aimed to promote digital equity within Spanish-speaking communities and attracted a diverse group of participants, including families from Guatemala, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. All 27 participants received a laptop, hands-on digital training, and resources like information about low-cost Xfinity Internet Essentials and the Inspiredu help desk.
Today, access to technology and digital resources is essential for education, employment, and community engagement. Yet while digital equity initiatives aim to ensure everyone has the same opportunities, marginalized multilingual communities such as immigrants and refugees face an additional barrier: language. In Georgia, this prevents thousands of non-English speakers from full participation in the digital landscape.
At Inspiredu, one of our most valued partners for helping build digital equity across Georgia is the local library. After all, libraries are committed to promoting literacy in all forms, digital included. They work to ensure that all community members have an opportunity to develop essential digital skills required for modern life. It makes them a perfect fit for our mission.
Inspiredu hosted the 2024 Inspire Gala along with our presenting supporter, Truist, this past Thursday, September 12th, at The Foundry at Puritan Mill.
We presented our Corporate Service Partner Award to Comcast, who have been a tremendous help to us this year. Lisa Walker Holloway, Senior Manager of External Affairs, who accepted the award said, “I am truly passionate about Inspiredu’s work and our shared goals for digital inclusion are helping to make our community connected more than ever."
Naomi Carter and her daughter, Skylar Rose Porter, are the recipients of the 4th annual Lillian Hicks Family of the Year Award. This yearly recognition celebrates families who have shown resilience, growth, and a commitment to education through Inspiredu.
Each year, we set an impact goal for our mission. Today, we’re proud to share our semi-annual report, which reveals remarkable strides in the first half of the year. In fact, we’ve achieved 83% of our annual goal so far! This significant progress highlights the dedication of our team and effectiveness of our initiatives to promote digital equity in Georgia’s underserved communities.
Today, access to the internet is essential for education, employment, and communication. According to our 2024 Semi-Annual Report, at Inspiredu, we have impacted 2,243 lives through digital skills education and distributed 1,649 home learning centers to Georgia families to help build digital equity this year alone.
Thanks to a recent initiative, local libraries are a new, central location for a series of our digital learning workshops in 2024. The effort is part of "Connect the Dots for Digital Equity," led by Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett.
At Inspiredu, we’re driven by the opportunity to connect with families and learners like Phyllis. After facing a tough period of job loss and displacement, Phyllis has turned her life around with hard work and the support of our programs.
