Board Highlight: Errika Moore

I’m energized to serve as both in service of Inspiredu’s commitment to a two-generational approach to education and digital inclusion.

 Q.  As a Inspiredu board member, what are you most excited about?

Given my unwavering commitment to equity, I’m excited to serve as a change agent, helping Inspiredu fulfill its “commitment to making a direct impact on young scholars and their families by continuing to support meaningful and sustained change.”

I’ve supported Inspiredu for years. So I’m excited to continue bridging the gaps in digital literacy for marginalized communities expanding and ensuring more equitable access to resources relative to education and work preparedness.

I’m excited to learn the stories of specific families so I can better serve as an ambassador for the organization and a positive disruptor in our digital literacy ecosystem, ensuring that families have voice and agency and creating greater awareness about their daily lives – and why digital equity is imperative.

Q. What is your current job and what does it involve?

I serve as the inaugural Executive Director for the STEM Funders Network (SFN).  In this capacity, I’m working through SFN to transform STEM philanthropy by creating greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and access to STEM learning opportunities for historically marginalized groups such as underserved populations—including people of color, individuals who identify as female, and learners with disabilities—and rural and under-resourced communities. We also connect grantmaking organizations to drive social change in STEM opportunities through creative and collaborative endeavors that leverage resources, ideas, and leadership. We use our collective power to create long-term, intentional impact and influence positive change in the STEM philanthropic space.

Q.  What is a day like in the life of Errika?

As a wife, mother, Executive Director, board member, educational champion, and graduate student, my day includes managing my son’s senior year in high and encouraging him towards graduation and the next phase of life, focusing on the vision and mission for the STEM Funders Network, fulfilling board commitments for several organizations, continuing to disrupt the systemic disparities that exist in our educational ecosystems, and working to stay current and relevant in my graduate classes in Georgia Tech’s History and Sociology program.  And in the midst of all this, trying to be a supportive partner to my husband.

The day in the life of Errika generally begins at 5 AM and typically doesn’t end before 11 PM.  Throughout the day, I usually pray for strength, grace, and mercy to successfully get through the day.

Q. How do you relate to Inspiredu’s mission, values, and/or work?

Similar to Inspiredu’s mission, my purpose in life is to support underserved youth and under-resourced communities.  My goal is to help ensure access to opportunities that empower greater trajectories. At this stage in life, my “purpose is to live a life of purpose” “because I’m no longer accepting the things I cannot change; I’m changing the things I cannot accept.”

Therefore, I truly appreciate that my commitment to digital inclusion and equity aligns with Inspiredu’s Vision.  This work still needs champions and change agents.  I’m energized to serve as both in service of Inspiredu’s commitment to a two-generational approach to education and digital inclusion.

Although my journey began from a working-class family, I know I’ve been blessed with access and opportunities that have changed my life trajectory.  For me, it’s not okay for others not to have the same.
