Extending Partnerships Into ALL Communities
Inspiredu (www.iuatl.org) is proud to be serving the refugee community once again. This initiative has come through a significant relationship cultivated between Inspiredu’s CEO, Richard Hicks, and Safa Delery, who is the refugee coordinator for ICNA Relief (www.icnarelief.org) and now a Digital Champion for Inspiredu. ICNA Relief USA seeks to alleviate human suffering by providing caring and compassionate service to victims of adversities and survivors of disasters. ICNA Relief USA strives to build healthy communities, strengthen families and create opportunities for those in despair while maintaining their dignity. ICNA Relief is one of the first Muslim sub-resettlement agencies and had the honor of being recently recognized by the State of Georgia for its important work.
In 2022, Inspiredu distributed over 80 laptops and provided digital skills workshops for ICNA Relief recipients, and in 2023 we renewed our partnership to continue the impact.
Safa shared a story about one of the recipients from the workshops who had received an Associate’s Degree in Afghanistan, but then the unrest took place and the evacuation occurred. He proceeded to take a picture of his Associate’s Degree and fled to America. Upon entering the United States, he met Safa and explained the importance of continuing his education. He signed up for one of the digital skills workshops provided by Inspiredu and received a laptop to take the assessments needed to learn English to work towards US Citizenship and towards a grant from Georgia's Refugee Program. After receiving those important resources, he was able to obtain a job and utilize his laptop to help bring more income into the household to work toward self-reliance. Safa explains, “Many families like him spread information and cultivate as a community to further their opportunities.”
Safa is the first woman as a board member of the Afghan Union of Atlanta, which was recently formed by the local Afghans. She represents the Women's Affairs Department to cultivate independence where Afghan women can be heard and seen for their talent and develop business and technology skills at the local Afghan Union Community Center in Dekalb County.
