Board Highlight: Bre Pittman

Prior to becoming familiar with the work of Inspiredu, I took these privileges for granted. Now, I realize that the organization’s impact is far greater than I ever imagined.

Q.  As an Inspiredu Advisory board member, what are you most excited about?

I'm excited to stay informed about the inspiring work carried out by the Inspiredu staff. Through my involvement on the advisory board, I've gained insights into the digital divide and its far-reaching effects, both locally in Atlanta and especially in rural communities where accessing technology is a significant challenge. Collaborating directly with the Inspiredu team, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute towards providing devices to underserved students and adults. Even if my role as a board member impacts just one person, I believe it is worthwhile.

Q. What is your current job and what does it involve?

As the Foundation Coordinator for Sage North America, I facilitate our corporate responsibility goals of knocking down barriers so that everyone can thrive. We recognize the importance of contributing to the well-being of our employees and the communities where they live and work, as it directly impacts our company's and colleagues' success. We actively engage with non-profit organizations and underserved entrepreneurs to provide them with access to resources and opportunities to overcome social, economic, and financial barriers. In my position, I bridge the gap between our community partners' needs and the skills of Sage employees, facilitating valuable volunteer opportunities that benefit both our communities and colleagues.

Q.  What is a day like in the life of Bre?

One aspect of my job that I truly appreciate is the diversity of projects I engage with on a daily basis. I feel fortunate to oversee employee volunteerism and community partnerships across the US and Canada. This means that on any given day, I might be involved in supporting a foster care agency in Austin, TX, a food bank in San Jose, CA, northern indigenous youth in the Arctic, or Inspiredu here in Atlanta. It is indeed a busy and dynamic role, but it fills me with energy and enthusiasm. I enjoy brainstorming creative ways to assist our non-profit partners and collaborating with colleagues who are eager to volunteer. Being the catalyst for individuals to channel their passion towards serving their community allows me to witness the very best of humanity each day. I couldn't ask for anything better. Beyond work, I am an avid foodie, constantly exploring Atlanta's culinary scene, especially when it comes to sushi or cooking elaborate meals at home. Additionally, being a parent to two young kids adds to the ever-changing nature of my days, but it brings me immeasurable fulfillment and joy.

Q. How do you relate to Inspiredu’s mission, values, and/or work?

Working for a global technology company means that every aspect of my job revolves around and relies on technology. The same applies to my personal life, which is also heavily intertwined with the use of technology. Despite living 600 miles away from my family, I'm grateful to have multiple devices at home that enable me not only to communicate with them daily but also to see them through video calls. While this may appear insignificant due to the prevalence of such devices, it's essential to acknowledge that many people lack access to devices, the internet, or the basic digital skills necessary to utilize them. Prior to becoming familiar with the work of Inspiredu, I took these privileges for granted. Now, I realize that the organization's impact is far greater than I ever imagined. It troubles me to envision any child or individual being left behind solely because they cannot afford a laptop or tablet or reside in a rural community with limited or no internet connectivity. Understanding that there are individuals and organizations equipped with the resources to bridge this digital divide, I am committed to supporting Inspiredu's mission until we can eradicate it entirely.
