Connecting The Dots for Digital Equity
Inspiredu joins commissioner Dana Barrett in her Connecting the Dots for Digital Equity initiative along with Comcast to serve Fulton County libraries with workshops and device distribution for families in Fulton County in 2024. The Connect the Dots workshops, powered by Inspiredu, Comcast, and the Fulton County Library System, provide a laptop, software, and training to get participants started with their learning and help them get connected to free or low cost internet. We have completed two workshops in 2024, serving roughly 69 families and participants. In the Family Learning Workshops and Adult Digital Literacy workshops, families learn basic digital literacy skills such as how to protect, maintain, and monitor their devices. They are also introduced to essential skills in Microsoft Office. Families and individuals in the two workshops conducted to date were given both digital resources and social resources. Lastly, workshop learners learned new ways to connect with their families via educational links and interactive games.
We had a chance to meet the Bland family at one of the Connect the Dots workshops. The mother, Artisha Bland, found joy in the workshop, describing it as an "awesome program for her daughter.” She particularly praised the trainer, stating, “Asha did an excellent job.” Their favorite aspect of the workshop was engaging in interactive activities, answering questions, and receiving prizes. This positive feedback underscores the workshop's success in not just meeting but surpassing the expectations of participants, while providing valuable resources and creating an enjoyable learning experience for families like the Blands.
