Board Highlight: William Wesley

As a servant leader, I am here to do the people’s work.
— William Wesley

Q. As an Inspiredu board member, what are you most excited about?

As a board member, I am excited for the opportunity to advance the cause of digital literacy while marrying it with the importance of financial literacy. The two are inseparable, and they will be the cornerstone of my advocacy and service to the executive board of this organization. As a servant leader, I am here to do the people’s work.

Q. What is your current job, and what does it involve?

I work in Business and Community Development for Delta Community Credit Union. Daily, I manage our community and school investment portfolio by executing strategies targeted at organizations committed to improving the physical and financial well-being of young people and families. We invest through school STEAM funding, college scholarships, community grants, and financial education.

Q. What is a day like in the life of Will?

My day starts and ends with family. Once the Wesley Clan is good, I can focus on building relationships with schools and nonprofit leaders to cultivate partnerships for Delta Community. I’m also a student at Georgia State University in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. You can catch me on campus in the library three days a week, writing essays or completing group assignments. I maintain an active presence within my kids’ school at Drew Charter to keep watch over my babies. And I always find time to check in and build with my queen.

Q. How do you relate to Inspiredu’s mission, values, and/or work?

I relate most with Inspiredu’s mission to help underserved youth develop the skills needed for career success. Representation is a huge part of that equation. Before I found the Corporate Philanthropy space, I searched for years to identify a career that would give me fulfillment and financial security. So I see it as my responsibility to empower and engage with those underserved young people of color to share my professional journey of what is possible when you tap into the resources and persevere long enough to find your career passion.
